Options

Auxiliary Contact: Option "A"
The auxiliary contact feature provides an interface between SEL fault indicators and a variety of information systems such as SCADA. The latching relay remains open when the indicator is in the normal, untripped state and closes when the indicator trips. A dedicated magnetic memory allows the fault indicator to serve as a SCADA sensor.

BEACON®
SEL fault indicators with BEACON displays simplify fault finding at night and in other low-visibility conditions. These displays include one or more LEDs that begin to blink when a fault on the system causes the indicator to trip. Some BEACON displays include both a mechanical target and an LED, while others indicate fault simply with the LEDs. Most SEL displays are also available in a lighted BEACON version.

Clear
A BEACON fault indicator returns to the normal cleared position when its LED stops flashing. Current or voltage reset fault indicators clear when normal system current or voltage returns; timed reset indicators clear when the pre-set clearing time elapses.

Daylight Restraint®
The Daylight Restraint® feature prolongs the battery life of overhead BERs by disarming the LED during periods of high ambient light when the mechanical target is sufficient. If the indicator is still in the tripped position when darkness falls, the LED will automatically begin flashing again. This cycle will continue until normal system requirements resume and the indicator returns to the normal, untripped position.

Delayed Trip: Option "DT"
The delayed trip option eliminates nuisance tripping that may occur when a fault indicator's response time is appreciably faster than the system protection. This option slows the fault indicator's trip response time from 1 ms to the delayed trip standard of 24 ms. Other trip response times are available upon request.

Hot Line: Option"HL"
The liquid crystal HOT LINE display is one of two display options on SEL voltage indicators. When system voltage is present, the LCD display reads HL- HOT LINE; when a fault occurs and the line is no longer energized, the display is blank, indicating a loss of voltage.

Inrush Restraint: Option "IR"
Inrush restraint prevents a fault indicator from falsely tripping when an inrush current exceeding the indicator's nominal trip rating is present during recloser operations. Automatic reset fault indicators that might ordinarily have tripped in response to the inrush current will instead remain in the normal, untripped position. SEL particularly recommends inrush restraint protection on indicators with the auxiliary contact option. In this case, inrush restraint prevents false remote reporting during normal inrush conditions. Inrush restraint is also necessary on SEL fault counters.

Junction Shield: Options "J" and "J6"
Junction shields prevent fault indicators mounted on test points from falsely tripping because of their close proximity to adjacent lines (adjacent phase tripping). Type "J" junction shields are required on all test point indicators with trip ratings between 60 and 200 A that are applied to 200 A Class systems. Type "J6" junction shields are required on most indicators applied to 600 A T-bodies with test points.

Troubleshooting Kit: Option "K"
SEL offers manual reset (MR) products in a kit designed to simplify these indicators' temporary installation as troubleshooting devices. The kit contains three MRs, a reset tool, and a hard-sided carrying case.

Linam®
EOS Manufacturing's registered trademark has been synonymous with quality fault indicators for over 50 years.

Nonreplaceable Battery: Option "N"
BEACON flashing LED indicators are available with a nonreplaceable battery in place of the standard field-replaceable battery. The "N" Option increases the indicator's Amp hour rating from 2.4 Ah to 8.5 Ah and its typical operating life from 1,200 to 3,000 flashing hours. When the battery's energy is expended, the BEACON LED will no longer illuminate when the indicator senses a fault. However, if the indicator also has a mechanical target, this portion of the display will continue to operate because it does not require battery energy.

Rampdown Restraint™
The AutoRANGER™ product line's Rampdown Restraint feature prevents fault indicators on a de-energized system from lowering their trip rating. This lockout function prevents false tripping during cold load pickup.

Reset
A fault indicator in the normal reset position will display a white mechanical target When a current or voltage reset indicator is in the normal reset position, the system is energized, and the indicator is ready to trip. However, a timed or manual reset indicator may be in the normal position even when system voltage and current are not present: a timed reset indicator will reset after a factory-set time-out period has elapsed (or after manually reset by a lineman), while manual reset indicators will remain in the tripped position until a line crew manually resets them.

Snap Action Clamp: Option S
The Snap Action Clamp facilitates fault indicators' installation in cramped enclosure conditions. Linemen find it easy to use a single hotstick to install indicators with the snap action clamp option. The snap action clamp also provides a clamping solution for large cable diameters of 1 inch to 2.3 inches.
