3CRV
Three-Phase Current Reset With a Standard Remote Display

Overview

SEL three-phase current reset fault indicators with standard remote displays (3CRV) use continuous line load current to automatically reset and to maintain the energy required to respond to a fault (no batteries or minimum voltage required). When a fault occurs, the 3CRV’s reflective red target appears. It automatically resets when minimum line load is restored. 3CRV fault indecators are easy to install on an energized system using hotsticks and are field testable using tool Cat. No. CRSRTT. Apply 3CRV fault indicators on systems that are three-phase sectionalized. A single integral split-core transformer powers the 3CRV. The other two phases monitor fault level current to activate a single remote display. The 3CRV fault indicator requires a minimum continuous load current to reset and remain ready to respond to a fault. The remote visual display assembly includes a panel mounting kit with a drilling template, polycarbonate display window, and associated stainless steel mounting hardware.

Applications

3CRV fault indicators are typically installed on underground systems near sectionalizing points. In three-phase feed-through transformers, install the indicators at the base of the connector on the underground cable. 3CRV indicators are ideal in three phase applications where test point type connectors are not available to install a voltage reset type indicator. In livefront switchgear applications, install one set of 3CRV fault locators on each outgoing feed. The phase sensors are installed below the stress relief terminator located in the pad or in the pedestal. The remote display load is then trained up to near the top of the cabinet for mounting at the optimum location. The 3CRV is also well suited to subsurface network switchgear or any three-phase elbow switching structure of wall-mounted switchgear. To keep the cables tidy and in place, EOS Manufacturing offers magnetic cable guides that securely position the cable but are easy to reposition when pulling elbows or working inside the enclosure.

SEL offers an optional auxiliary contact feature that can be used with the utilities' SCADA systems. This normally open latching-type contact closes when a fault occurs and will not open until normal system load current is restored for 30 continuous seconds.
