Three-Phase Current Reset With Three Phase Remote Display
| Overview |
SEL three-phase current reset fault indicators with three-phase remote displays (3CR3) use continuous line load current to automatically reset and
to maintain the energy required to respond to a fault (no batteries or minimum voltage required). When a fault occurs, the reflective red target representing the faulted phase (A, B, or C) comes into view. For example, if the fault occurs on phase A of the three-phase system, the A-phase target indicates in the display head. The 3CR3 can indicate a fault on one, two, or all three phases of the system, and automatically resets when minimum line load is restored. 3CR3 fault indicators are easy to install on an energized system using hotsticks and are field-testable using tool Cat. No. CRSRTT. Because all three phase indications are located within the same display head, SEL remote three-phase displays require just three holes in the side of the transformer cabinet: one for the display head itself, and one for each of the two carriage bolts that mount the display to the cabinet. Apply 3CR3 fault indicators on single- and three-phase sectionalized systems. The 3CR3 fault indicator requires a minimum continuous load current to reset and remain ready to respond to a fault. |
| Applications |
3CR3 fault indicators are best suited for installation on underground systems near sectionalizing points. In three-phase feed-through transformers, install the indicators at the base of the connector on the underground cable. 3CR3 indicators are ideal in three-phase applications where test point type connectors are not available to install a voltage reset type indicator. In livefront switchgear applications, install one set of 3CR3 fault indicators on each outgoing feed, with the phase sensors installed below the stress relief terminator located in the pad or pedestal. Train the remote display lead up to near the top of the cabinet for mounting at the optimum location. The 3CR3 is also ideal for application in subsurface network switchgear or any three-phase elbow switching structure of wall-mounted switchgear. To keep the cables tidy and in place, EOS Manufacturing offers magnetic cable guides that securely position the cable but are easy to reposition when pulling elbows or working inside the enclosure.
SEL offers an optional auxiliary contact feature that can be used with the utilities' SCADA systems. This normally open latching-type contact closes when a fault occurs and will not open until normal system load current is restored for 30 continuous seconds. |
