Our Purpose – Making Electric Power Safer, More Reliable, and More Economical
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories takes pride in helping to build, protect, control, monitor, and improve the critical infrastructure of electric power systems worldwide. As a growing, employee-owned company, we are uniquely able to respond with new innovations and creative solutions to the challenges our customers face.
SEL’s mission has always been to make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical. Our growing number of solutions enables us to meet this goal in more industries and markets every year. In 119 countries around the world, utilities, rural electric cooperatives, refineries, pulp and paper mills, pharmaceutical firms, and many others rely on SEL equipment and services.
E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing, started by my father in 1950, became a division of SEL in 2005. The fault indicators, split-core current transformers, and voltage sensors and indicators made by E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing contribute to SEL’s ability to provide complete distribution system solutions to our customers around the world.
As power reliability becomes increasingly important, more customers realize the tremendous potential of fault indicators to reduce customer outage time – and in some cases, even reduce the number of outages. The result is that customer experience fewer, shorter outages, and utilities’ SAIDI, CAIDI, and SAIFI reliability metrics improve.
To make underground fault finding safer, quicker, and less expensive, SEL has just introduced the RadioRANGER Wireless Fault Indication System. The RadioRANGER helps line crews find faults without opening, entering, pumping and draining multiple vaults. It is also applicable in padmount enclosures, particularly those which are otherwise difficult to access. This simple yet sophisticated system senses faults using fault indicator technology that our E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing division has perfected over the last 58 years.
I invite you to review our web site to learn more about the RadioRANGER as well as our AutoRANGER and LINAM fault indicators, and tools such as split-core CTs and voltage indicators.
All of us at SEL look forward to working with you for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Edmund O. Schweitzer, III Ph.D.
