Edmund O. Schweitzer
Edmund O. Schweitzer began designing and manufacturing innovative products for the electric power industry in 1909, when he partnered with Nicholas J. Conrad to develop the first reliable high-voltage fuse. This development resulted in Schweitzer & Conrad, the company known today as S&C Electric Company. Later product developments included fuse mountings, disconnect switches, lightning arresters, and metal-enclosed switchgear. He also spent much of his career at the Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago. |

Edmund O. Schweitzer Jr.
Edmund O. Schweitzer Jr. founded E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing Company, Inc. in 1950 for the purpose of researching and designing line-powered fault indicators. During his lifetime, Mr. Schweitzer Jr. amassed nearly 100 patents involving fault indicators, voltage sensors, current transformers, and other devices for the electric power industry. Utilities around the world rely on these fault indicators to quickly restore system power after a fault occurs. E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing became a division of SEL (see below) in 2005. |

Edmund O. Schweitzer III
Edmund O. Schweitzer III founded Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in 1982 for the purpose of making electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical. Dr. Schweitzer invented algorithms which he subsequently used to develop microprocessor-based protective relays. Today, utilities in more than 119 countries around the world use SEL’s protective relays, recloser and voltage regulator controls, motor protection relays, communications processors, meters, and many other products. With more than 40 SEL Technical Service Centers around the world, SEL is committed to providing the best customer service and sales support in the industry.
